An Afternoon in Minneapolis (The Skyway and the MIA)

We spent the afternoon at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA).  It's a really nice art museum, very much like Boston's Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) or a scaled-down version of NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

We explored the museum for several hours, skillfully avoiding the Modern and Contemporary Art rooms.  (I am a constant disappointment to Pete M.)  It is a very nice museum with some cool exhibits inside and, best of all, it's free admission.  Highly recommended.

To get to the museum, and to move throughout the downtown area of Minneapolis, we used the truly amazing Skyway.  The Skyway is a series of interconnected, enclosed pedestrian bridges that connect building-to-building on nearly every city block downtown. You can essentially travel from one end of the city to the other without leaving the air-conditioned (or heated) comfort of the indoors.  While you may lose some of the "flavor" of the streets in doing so, it is certainly a handy alternative on days when it is 97 degrees and humid (like yesterday).

I wish more cities had something like this.
