7/22/2008 - [Old] Yankee Stadium - MLB Ballpark #1

2008 Game #1 Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees
Final Score: Yankees 8, Twins 2

I've been to several ballparks, but there are a few that will always stand out in my mind. Yankee Stadium, in its final season, is one of those.

While "aura" and "mystique" get made fun of a bit back home, you really feel the history in this place. The championships, the hall of fame players, and the names that transcend the sport. This is an amazing place.

Having said all that, it's also a really old ballpark that truly looks its age. Lacking a major facelift in decades, it's probably time to retire this building and move on to something newer and bigger (although likely not better).

The game was a forgettable one, with the Bombers easily besting the Twins.

Still though, it is an amazing place to watch a ball game. It will truly be missed.

Note: While labeled "MLB Ballpark #1," Yankee Stadium is not the first ballpark we have visited together. That honor, of course, goes to Fenway Park. The "#1" is there because this is the first ballpark featured on our Baseball Road Trip Blog.
