7/16/2009 - Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum - MLB Ballpark #20

2009 Game #18 - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Oakland Athletics
Final Score: Angels 6, Athletics 2
Hot Dog - 2/5

Aimee and Tony joined us for our jaunt into Oaktown.  We took the BART (light rail) into Oakland and arrived early at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (formerly McAfee Coliseum, also known as Al Davis’ Assisted Living Home).

Since the A’s made us walk around 7/8 of the stadium to get to the will call window, we got a good chance to view the outside of the arena… It’s mostly concrete, with accents of concrete here and there.  We were wholly unimpressed and, to be honest, I was beginning to dread going in.

The inside of the park is much different, however.  Unlike the Metrodome (I was anticipating the worst), the OACC actually feels like a baseball stadium.  This is due to the gently-sloping field-level seats and the outfield bleacher building.  We were told that the original stands were knocked down and the new section built in its place.

The game was unremarkable, an easy win for the Halos.  Karyn and Tony are battling this week in fantasy baseball and Tony had tonight’s Angels starter (who did rather well), so he did some gloating early.  Oh, we got to see Nomah pinch-hit in the 9th… and he struck out.  It was fitting (and almost poetic) for this game.

All in all, a mediocre game in a mediocre stadium.
