7/1/2009 - Busch Stadium [III] - MLB Ballpark #13

2009 Game #11 - San Francisco Giants at St. Louis Cardinals
Final Score: Cardinals 2, Giants 1 (10 innings)
Hot Dog - 3/5

Wow!  An extra inning game (that thankfully did not require another page in the scorebook), a walk-off win, and a great view from the park!  Oh, and we saved $10 each on our game tickets (AAA strikes again!).Busch Stadium [III]was beautiful.  I would put it in the Top 3 to date, and Rich includes it in his Top 5 too.  The sheer quantity of bricks used in the building was impressive.

Once inside, well… I think the picture speaks for itself.

The game was also excellent.  Low-scoring (only 1 run allowed through the first 7 innings), but still with plenty of action.  There were walks, hits, errors (for the Giants, anyway), but just the one run.  In the top of the 8th, the Cardinals starter gave up the tying run on a sacrifice fly, after he had loaded the bases.  Oops.  But then he came back out in the ninth, and with a runner on second, he struck out the side.  Made them look silly, actually.  Bottom of the ninth: bases loaded, 2 out.  Joe (0-3) Thurston is up, having struck out twice already.  And then and then and then……… he struck out again.  So, it was on to the tenth, where in the bottom of the frame Colby Rasmus (who?) hit a walk-off homerun to win the game.  Yay!  Excellent game to watch all around.

And there was an unexpected bonus!  Battle of the Molina Brothers!  It was first Bengie up for the Giants, then Yadier later for the Cards.  Also, Albert Pujols (who was intentionally walked in his first 2 at-bats… boo) hit 2 homeruns yesterday.  One of them went right into Big Mac Land… or at least the “i” anyway.

A great night this side of the Mississippi.  Tomorrow, it’s off to Wrigley, a park I am looking forward to tremendously.  Onward!
